Touch-A-Truck 2026

On Wednesday, July 22, Abbie DeLong and Ed Gibb attended the Touch-A-Truck event in Roberts, Wisconsin. This community event is designed to give children the opportunity to learn more about the many different types of vehicles they see on the road every day. From school buses and police cars to fire trucks and even helicopters, kids had the chance to get an up-close look at a variety of vehicles while learning about the important jobs they perform in the community.

The event provides a great hands-on learning experience for children by helping them make visual connections to things they may only see from a distance. Being able to climb inside the vehicles, explore the equipment, and ask questions allows kids to better understand how these vehicles are used and the people who operate them.

SCEC brought one of its bucket trucks to the event to help teach children about the work electric cooperatives do to provide safe and reliable power. Kids were excited to climb into the driver's seat and pretend they were driving the truck. They also had the opportunity to explore the back of the vehicle and see some of the equipment lineworkers use while maintaining and restoring power. Each child received a yellow hard hat to take home, making the experience even more memorable.

Throughout the event, Ed and Abbie enjoyed visiting with families, answering questions, and teaching children about bucket trucks and the role SCEC plays in the community. The day was filled with curious questions, excited smiles, and plenty of future lineworkers in training. SCEC was proud to be part of another fun community event and help create a positive learning experience for local children.
