Tree Trimming

Overgrown branches near power lines can cause outages, safety hazards, and service interruptions, especially during storms.  Our tree trimming program helps protect the electric system by keeping lines clear while also promoting healthy tree growth.

St. Croix Electric Cooperative maintains nearly 800 miles of overhead lines and works on a 5-year tree trimming rotation based on groups of townships within our service territory.

A two-man crew from Zielies Tree Service takes to the air and to the ground to be sure the 15-foot Utility Maintenance Area (UMA) around the lines is clear.

Jake Nelson will head the crew assigned to SCEC. An important part of Jake's job is communication with SCEC members. Although we do our best to notify members when the crew might be in their area, some are surprised, so he tries to alert property owners before trimming the trees.

July 1, 2025:

From now through the end of November, a crew from Zieles Tree Service will be working along the route of SCEC’s overhead power lines in the towns of Glenwood, Baldwin, Cady, Spring Lake, Lucas, Tiffany and Gilman.

Crews will be in these areas trimming, cutting and removing trees and other vegetation growing or encroaching into the utility maintenance area.

If needed they may also use a Jarraff brush cutter and mower to finish the right-of-way maintenance.

This may result in piles of mowed, diced or chipped material.

Please do not relocate the material without checking with us first.

Please use the form found below if you have any questions or concerns regarding Tree Trimming.

We trim trees under service lines up to the meter. Trimming under service lines between pole-mounted meters and the service panel on the structure is the member's responsibility.
For limbs hanging over the line, please contact our office to have them taken care of safely.
