Thinking of Installing Solar Panels? Start here!

Owning and installing a solar renewable energy system interconnected with SCEC's distribution lines can be a personally satisfying and rewarding project for the member-owner.  SCEC wants to help ensure the process is as smooth as possible from start to finish.

While SCEC does not install solar arrays, we do work with members to make sure they have all the information they need to make an informed decision.  We also work with members and contractors to ensure any distributed generation facility is safely interconnected.

Do your homework before you install
  • Talk to others with similar systems
  • Research economic benefits, legal considerations, zoning rules, maintenance, and operating costs
  • Get references before choosing a vendor - We encourage all members to use a trustworthy local contractor. Local contractors are familiar with Wisconsin and SCEC's requirements.
Ready to apply?

Before you install solar panels, you’ll need to submit a SCEC Distributed Generation Application in order to connect to our electric grid. Unless you plan to self-install the equipment, your contractor will submit the application on your behalf.

We use the Nova Power Portal for our application process.

NOTE: Solar arrays do not qualify for subtractive off-peak metering. Please contact SCEC before submitting an application to discuss the requirements.
